Religion, Faith, and Morality…
I’m going to touch on the infallibility of religion.
I heard someone make a statement not too long ago about how christianity is the perfect religion, because there is no way to prove that it’s wrong, and that it’s infallable.
Now, setting aside the fact that that’s a big load of hooey, what is it that makes it infallable?
Denial.
If there was ever any blatantly obvious flaw, or proof that it’s simply not true, the evidence wouldn’t be accepted, no matter how good?
It would be ignored.
The closest to admitting any such evidence existed would be to simply call it “A test of faith” or some such nonsense…
Let’s imagine someone decided, nay, believed with the utmost convicion that cars were imaginary, and no amount of physical evidence could convince this person they really existed. This person gets hit by a car, do they say “oh… cars exist!”.. no… they look to the stars and scream “Why dost thou test mine faith, oh great one!”
That, is religion.
Religion relies on denial of reality for strength… the idea that it’s better to ignore reality for the sake of a future reality. To prostrate yourself for the sake of a being as realistic and beliveable as Spongebob Square Pants…
I’m hungry… so I’ll continue this later
Well, I don’t think you’re going to be converting any Christians with that one my friend. I think you have only prooved that you are “the devils right hand, the devils right hand, momma says…”
Smoking gun or no…
Here’s how I see it. There is a large community of rational, educated, hard working agnostics out there who live their lives quietly apart, tho surrounded by Christian fundamentalists. Those numbers grow everytime a child get’s molested, a native tribe get’s murdered, or a church goes bankrupt – morally and economically. It’s a slow and painfull process, but it works. Nobody really pays any attention to those people who quietly and polietly go about their lives. Polite people offer other polite people secret handshakes and free crap. The free crap is always free to everyone, they just don’t point it out the bastards. And let’s not forget the $66 pain-in-my-ass fee. SO be nice and stop preaching. Or you’re gonna pay more, get less and otherwise find yourself on the inside surrounded by a bunch of preachy fundamentalists. Give me the outside any day. I would rather be outcast for my faults than accepted for my so called strengths any day. But, it’s time to get back to Richmond Rd. and watch as they tear down a church and build condos. Woot! The end is nigh, indeed.
Honestly, this is why I haven’t contined this yet – I was disappointed with the strength of argument and conviction… I’d rather mouth of and be hated though, than be amused on the sidelines…
… and I’m going to quote you on that (oh the mileage). Most excellent quotable! You should have been a politician.
