and I don’t feel right

opportunities I can’t take without screwing people I care about…

people that just don’t know

I’m hungry, I’m broke (I have food, the hungry has nothing to do with the broke)

rah

I have so many things I want to write, and so many reasons to stop here.

No Introductions Neccessary

August 22nd, 2009 Patrick 1 comment

So I get an idea for a blog… I log in, hit “New Post”, type a title (I don’t make a point of ensuring the titles match with the content, although it does happen often enough)

And BAM

I draw a blank.

*sad face*

I actually remember what I was going to post, and I shall… but the blank moment made me wonder wtf is wrong with me (but not in this post… I don’t have the time nor the energy to cover THAT right now)

anyways.

The BEST motherfucking turkey sandwich IN THE WORLD.

bet you weren’t expecting that?

Don’t expect pictures, I ate it already.

Anyways, here’s the list of ingredients:

1 Cheese Bun
Cream Cheese
Mayo
Spicy Mustard
Cheddar Cheese (real, not processed)
Feta Cheese (tomato basil if you have it)
Asiago Cheese
2 Pickle Slices, Dill (lengthwise cut, not little medallions)
2 Tomato Slices, thick
3 Strips thick cut bacon, cooked, but not crispy
Sprouts or Lettuce
Deli cut turkey, 12-14 slices

First, Cut the bun in half

Put a light layer of cream cheese on the heel of the bun, and a light sprinkle of feta – very light, it’s meant to be a complimentary hint, not overpowering, then sliced cheddar.

put about an 1/8th of a pound of deli sliced turkey over the cheese evenly.

add tomato slices, and sprinkle the tomato with a thin layer of grated asiago cheese, and top with bacon slices.

add pickle slices, then sprouts about 1/4 inch thick

mix a small amount of mayo with mustard, and spread over the inside of the top of the bun, place on the sandwich, put it on a plate

at this point, you can either throw it in a hot over for a minute or so, or microwave for about 40 seconds, to warm the bun and slightly melt the cheddar, then eat, and be amazed.

for a slight variation, use pesto instead of mustard.

obviously leave out ingredients you don’t like… for the calorie conscious (this is admittedly a VERY calorie filled sandwich), leave out the bacon, cheddar and mayo, use a whole wheat bun instead of a cheese bun, and use less turkey – I’ve done this, and it’s still delicious.

other ingredients worth adding?

Any veggie you adore – clearly the best sandwich is a big, juicy sandwich filled with things you love… any great combination you find, let me know, I’m always looking for something new.

2 Places to Covet if you’re Ever Visiting… Surrey?

August 21st, 2009 Patrick No comments

We all know someone.

You know.

They, for some reason, chose – not forced, not threatened, not even… bribed… they chose to live in Surrey. Now, being a good friend, you, on a semi-annual basis, should visit.

While you’re there, there are a couple things you should know about Surrey.

It has a very high concentration of both Vietnamese, and Indian folk – if you’re like me, and love Indian food, or Pho, you might realize you’re actually in something of a lower mainland mecca of excellent places to eat. I’ll share 2 of them with you.

The first place I’ll share is a little Pho place, it’s on the corner if 108th Avenue and 148th Street. It’s a hole in the wall, next door to a Donair shop and a Subway. The donair shop is extraordinary, Subway is Subway – cheap cuts of low quality meat and no-name sauces sold for the price of decent quality food – avoid it.

Pho Tau Bay

The service is what you’d expect at a little family owned Vietnamese restaurant, which is to say, they’re not all that friendly, and they’re very efficient. The restaurant looks clean, but it’s worn – if you arrive during lunch or dinner, you probably won’t get a seat. It’s worth waiting if that’s the case, but if you simply can’t wait, the Donair shop next door is an excellent fallback choice, but it’s no Pho. This is to say simply that nothing can replace Pho if that’s what you’re craving. I know this far too well. Inexpensive, be sure to try the spring roll, they’re to die for.

The second wonder?

It’s on 120th Street (also known as Scott Road, just in case you see two names and get confused, as may have happened to me once or twice) just about half a block from 92nd Street – right across the from the slightly less maligned North Delta.

Mahek

The place is extraordinary, in every sense of the word, with friendly service, good ambiance (if you can forget for a moment that you’re in Surrey), and debatably the best Indian food you’ll find in the lower mainland. This is actually saying a lot, if you weren’t sure. (Do NOT confuse it with Mefil, which is within sight of Mahek – Mefil is also Indian food, but it’s a buffet, and the quality is lacking). If you know Indian cooking, everything at Mahek is worth trying. If you don’t, there are basic large and small combo meals that overflow ornate serving platters, and introduce your taste buds to joys you may have thought reserved for the bedroom.
